Another Nepal Plane Crash...

Tragedies like this reveal that Nepal has been kept down and under-developed for the foreseeable past—responsibility greatly lies with the ruling ‘elite’ and does not exclude aid agents abetting them (wittingly or otherwise).

Who Believes in Russiagate...?

Incisive piece on what I believe is one of the biggest U.S. scandals of this era--Watergate on steroids Viagra:

The specter of an intelligence bureaucracy working in tandem with the press to preserve the prerogatives of a ruling clique is the kind of thing that someone who knows Russia from the inside and actually fears the specter of authoritarian government would naturally find worrying. And not surprisingly, concerns over the role of the intelligence community and its increasingly intrusive methods motivate other Russiagate critics on the left, like Glenn Greenwald at the Intercept, historian Jackson Lears writing at the London Review of Books, and Stephen Cohen at The Nation.
“One of the most bizarre aspects of Russiagate,” writes Lears, “is the magical transformation of intelligence agency heads into paragons of truth-telling—a trick performed not by reactionary apologists for domestic spying, as one would expect, but by people who consider themselves liberals.”
Cohen, a distinguished if often overly sympathetic historian of the Soviet Union, was even more alarmed. “Was Russiagate produced by the primary leaders of the US intelligence community?” asks Cohen, referring to former CIA director John Brennan as well as ex-FBI chief James Comey. “If so, it is the most perilous political scandal in modern American history and the most detrimental to American democracy.”

Yoga throwing Shade?

The following is a response to Yoga and the Roots of Cultural Appropriation by Shreena Gandhi and Lillie Wolff

Appropriation of…?

The “culture of elitism antithetical to the true roots of yoga” is the very culture of yoga where it originates (no matter the lofty aims of yoga) — that is, the “culture of elitism” in yoga is dominated by privileged, male Brahmins of an 'elite' caste responsible for centuries of oppression.

In India, yoga is and always has been dominated by privileged, male Brahmins of an 'elite' caste that is largely responsible for hideous racism and brutal apartheid, soul-crushing sexism, chronic poverty due to a deathly lack of development and endless, lethal corruption.

How can it then possibly be the provenance of “Indian women to whom this practice rightfully belongs”? Nothing seems further from reality. Since it’s advent, Indian women have been largely excluded from yoga in India where for centuries women face subjugation with extreme gender inequality and the severe ills it brings. In fact, India and China are notorious for ‘gendercide’ -- aborting females in favor of male offspring.

Doesn't accountability begin at home -- that is, with oneself? Authors, please check the facts on “cultural accountability” before wildly pointing fingers.
